artscience day 2024
Scientific research demands creativity — the ability to imagine new explanations, to think beyond established paths, and to design experiments and tools that bring the invisible closer to view. Like art, science strives to interpret, describe, and understand the world around us. Both approaches share striking similarities: the learning of methods, the pursuit of precision, the importance of peer recognition, and the use of abstraction — even if they speak in different languages.
Though artists and scientists are often trained in separate institutions, there is much to gain from fostering true exchange. The freedom of artistic perspective can open up new ways of approaching scientific questions, while the rigor of scientific thinking can enrich artistic exploration. This first ArtScience day invites both communities to meet, question, and inspire one another — part of a broader effort to open the university to society and to imagine new forms of knowledge-sharing.
The first edition of ArtScience Day, a collaboration with ULB and ISELP, combines lectures, panel talks, testimonials, performances and a temporary exhibition where Ohme presents a series of artworks created in collaboration with talented artists and researchers, exploring the intersection of art, science, and technology.
